WENATCHEE, WA :: After a successful opening event, Super Late Model racing’s best will gather again this weekend at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval (WVSO) for race two of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Northwest Triple Crown. The Montana ManRoc Columbia River 150 will bring the Northwest’s best short trackers together to compete on the picturesque quarter-mile speedway. The PASS Northwest Triple Crown is providing racers and fans in the region with a professionally run tour for the first in the better part of a decade.
In April, the Apple Blossom 200 served as the first race of the Triple Crown and gave everyone on the West Coast a glimpse into what has established PASS as one of the top sanctioning bodies in short track racing. Northwest racing legend Garrett Evans prevailed in a four car war to the checkered flag over local hero Shane Mitchell, Gary Lewis, and 2012 PASS National Champion, Jay Fogleman, who was making his first ever start at Wenatchee. With a race under his belt, Evans knows he will have his work cut out for him if he hopes to go back to victory lane in Saturday night’s Montana ManRoc Columbia River 150.
“The competition will be extremely tough on Saturday night and I’m sure it will be a challenge to get another win against all of those guys,” said Evans. “I think we showed the fans some great racing in April and the great potential that PASS racing in the Northwest has.”
With 50 fewer laps to compete than in April’s Apple Blossom 200, the Montana ManRoc Columbia River 150 will see racers pushing the limit even more so as they try to position themselves for a late charge to the checkered flag. And, that might be hard to believe, considering the hardnosed style of racing Northwest Super Late Model drivers are famous for.
Gary Lewis and Shane Mitchell will once again be a threat for the win along with fellow Washingtonians Brent Harris, Michael Knutson, Kelly Mann, and Josh Roberts. Oregon’s Alan Kress will also be making the tow up to Wenatchee, while Alberta, Canada’s Brian Levant will be heading in the opposite direction as the two hope to make up ground in the PASS Northwest Triple Crown.
Veteran racer Larry Pollard will be making a special trip from his home in North Carolina to Wenatchee as he returns to the driver’s seat for the Montana ManRoc Columbia River 150. This will not be Pollard’s first foray into PASS racing, however, as he made four PASS South Super Late Model starts in 2006-2007, with a best finish of eighth coming at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Originally from Victoria, British Columbia, Pollard established himself as one of the best stock car racers in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest throughout the 1970’s. He eventually moved East and in 1987 became the first foreign-born driver to win in what was then known as the Busch Series. In honor of his accomplishments, Pollard will be inducted into the WVSO Hall Of Fame prior to the green flag for the Montana ManRoc Columbia River 150.
Another full field of the Northwest’s best drivers will be at WVSO for this weekend’s 150 lapper hoping not only for a win, but to prepare for the one of the region’s biggest races of the year, the Wenatchee Valley 300 on August 9-10. Competitors from all across the West Coast will come together to race for 300 laps in one of the Summer’s richest events, with upwards of $16,000 going to the winner.
PASS Northwest Triple Crown entry forms the Montana ManRoc 150 and the Wenatchee Valley 300 at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval along with PASS South Super Late Model entry forms for Southern National Motorsports Park and Anderson Motor Speedway, PASS North Super Late Model entry forms for Oxford Plains Speedway and the 40th Annual TD Bank 250 can be found at ProAllStarsSeries.com.
