ROCKINGHAM, NC :: NASCAR, UARA and the X-1R Pro Cup Series all announced cancellations of their season ending races on Monday.  The three races were scheduled to be a part of a tripleheader weekend where the champions would be crowned in each series.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East finale will now be held at the Road Atlanta road course in Georgia on October 18th.  The UARA-STARS season finale will now be held at Anderson Motor Speedway on October 26th as part of a schedule realignment.  The X-1R Pro Cup Series season finale will be held at Hickory Motor Speedway on October 19th.

“It is unfortunate any time a race must be cancelled,” George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president, regional and touring, said in a press release issued by NASCAR. “However, the race track failed to meet its obligations and we were forced to terminate the sanction agreement. We look forward to a great race weekend at Road Atlanta to culminate the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season and crown the 2013 champion.”

“The UARA takes this time to express sincere gratitude to Andy and Michelle Hillenburg and their great team of employees that have hosted us for the past five years at Rockingham Speedway,” a UARA press release read.  “It is with regret that Hillenburg and the UARA announce that the finale at Rockingham for 2013 has been canceled. We commend the Hillenburgs for all the time, effort and love they put into the Rockingham Speedway. We wish them the very best in all their future endeavors. Our paths will more than likely pass again in the future.”

“All of us at the X-1R Pro Cup Series are as disappointed as most in the cancellation of the Championship 3 Weekend at Rockingham Speedway,” Chris Ragle, director of operations and marketing for the X1-R Pro Cup Series, said.  “Personally as a series, we know how tough it can be to bring life back into something you want to see work, so we know how tough this is on Andy (Hilllenburg). With that said after speaking with Andy to try any way possible to continue on with our series event at Rockingham, there is no other alternative but remove the event from the 2013 schedule. Obviously this was being setup a a big finale for us and now that the situation has changed we’ll have look at our options in the coming days to determine what the best thing going forward for the series, it’s competitors, and our series sponsors.”

The move comes as rumors have been circulating over social media about the future of the track.  RACE22.com has reached out to Andy Hillenburg and Rockingham Speedway for comment but requests for comment have not been returned.  RACE22.com has also learned that the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is not likely to return to Rockingham Speedway in 2014.

The UARA-STARS tour has visited Rockingham Speedway ever season since 2009 when the tour was part of a doubleheader with the ARCA Racing Series.  The X-1R Pro Cup Series first visited Rockingham Speedway in 2008.

Rockingham Speedway was previously closed in 2004.  Hillenburg purchased the track in 2007 and Rockingham Speedway hosted its first race since being closed in 2008 when it played host to the ARCA Racing Series’ Carolina 500.  Joey Logano was the winner in that race.

The most recent races held at Rockingham Speedway were in May when the UARA tour and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series raced at the track.  Kyle Larson won the Truck race while Brodie Kostecki won the UARA race.
