ALTAMAHAW, NC :: Robert Turner dominated Saturday night’s Carolina-Commonwealth Clash at Ace Speedway, leading 70 of 75 laps en route to victory over Todd Massey, who stated shotgun on the field, and Justin Carroll.

The victory was the first win of the season for Robert Turner.  He had finished second in his most recent start at Ace Speedway on June 20th.

“We had made some changes on the car,” Turner said.  “We were actually a second place car last time we raced so we kind of used this as a test and the car drove awesome.  I’m glad we came tonight and got the bugs worked out.  Only two weeks will tell if this is a race winning car next time.”

Todd Massey, who started in the 12th position, worked his way up to second.  After the race, he congratulated Turner and talked about how much Turner helped him with his racecar.

“I want to thank Robert and congratulate him, he drove a great race tonight,” Massey said.  “We broke the oil line right before qualifying and Robert went to his shop and fished for and brought us an oil line back or we wouldn’t have got to race tonight.  Robert and I have been best friends.  We go back to sixth grade.  Robert did a great job.”

Justin Carroll, making his first career start at Ace Speedway, said he could have used a late race caution to mount a charge at Turner.

“I don’t think [Turner] was impossible to beat tonight,” Carroll said.  “I wish we would have had a late race caution because we definitely had something for him.  I started figuring out the track more as the run went on.  First time being here and racing against track champions, I feel really happy getting a third place finish.”

Moonshine Capital points leader Johnny Cash finished fourth and Mike Chambers finished in fifth.

The race was slowed by a caution on the seventh lap of the race when Dylan Ward, who felt he had a good enough car to challenge Turner, spun off the front bumper of Cash.  Track officials determined the incident was a racing deal.  Ryan Millington and Ricky Gillespie were also involved in the incident.

Scarbrough Leads Wire-to-Wire for Modified Victory

The mighty Moonshine Modifieds had to draw for their starting positions due to delays in qualifying and the random draw put Joe Scarbrough on the pole.  Scarbrough went on to score the victory, leading every lap in the race, but he had to survive a handful of late race restarts in order to win.

Mike Bledsoe, who had a fast car all race, raced his way up through the field and moved in to the second position on the 15th lap of the 40 lap feature.  He spent much of the race trying to reel in Scarbrough.  The caution ended up coming out on lap 33 when Brandon Harding hammered the wall in the apex of turns three and four.

On the ensuing restart, Bledsoe ended up spinning after he and Jeff Woods made contact.  Scarbrough went on to score the victory over Jeff Woods and Mike Bledsoe, who worked his way back up to third in the closing laps.

“The guys have worked so hard on this car,” Scarborough said.  “I’ve got to thank Charlie and Aubrey.  My wife was spotting for me tonight.  Kowalsky Engines, that was a beast.  This thing was on a rail tonight.  I knew, the entire race, Bledsoe was hot.  We lucked out with the draw.  I was looking in the mirror and my hope was that it would go green the whole way.  I had a straightaway on him.  I was looking in my mirror and was looking for him because I knew he was coming.  I don’t know what happened on that restart because I was definitely sweating then I saw a right side door in the mirror and said we had it covered now.”

Ace Speedway will be back in action on July 18th with racing for the Late Models, Limited Late Models and Modifieds.  Moonshine Capital Promotions will be back at Ace Speedway on August 2nd with racing in all the divisions that were featured on Friday night.
