While Anthony Anders hung up his helmet to become a promoter, Adam Resnick has put his business suit away and grabbed his helmet again.
For Resnick, going to Wake County Speedway in Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday night will be a relief. That is because Resnick is going as a racecar driver for the first time in a couple years instead of as the track promoter. During the offseason, the quarter-mile track was subleased to business owner Mike Stodder who has been working with Charlie Hansen to promote the track.
“Man, it’s such a huge relief,” Resnick said. “I’m just a racer at heart and that’s why I did the racetrack because I care about the racers. It’s so good to be one of them again and go racing. I just cared so much and wanted everybody to be happy and fair. I took it very serious. It was a lot, it’s a big job to make sure everybody’s safe and happy and have a good show for the fans.”
Resnick said he personally selected Stodder to take over the track, citing his business skills and his personality.
“I personally picked Mike Stodder,” Resnick stated. I didn’t want to go to someone who isn’t a good person and couldn’t handle it. I personally went to Mike to take it over.”
Under Resnick’s management Wake County Speedway followed Dillon Motor Speedway in adopting a rules package that merged the Late Model and Limited Late Model classes. Very similar variations of Wake County’s rules package have since been adopted at East Carolina Motor Speedway and Southern National Motorsports Park, putting all three tracks on a near-universal rules package. Resnick praised Dillon Motor Speedway’s Ron Barfield for leading the way, saying he’s made racing more affordable with it.
So, with that type of rules package in place at four different tracks, Resnick feels he can compete at all four tracks and already has plans to, after the Wake County opener, travel east to Southern National.
“I ran at Dillon already,” Resnick explained. “I’m going to run the county this week and then the Denny Hamlin race on April 23rd. If I can pull it off, Jerry Moody was so good for the sport and Haley Moody is such a good person, so if we have a car and money left after the Hamlin race, we might attempt that as well.”
Not promoting has given Resnick time to experience other parts of racing. Lately, he’s been helping John and David West, an experience he calls “eye opening” and says has taught him a lot about what is fair and what is not.
Resnick’s immediate sights are set on Friday night’s season opener at Wake County Speedway where he hopes and feels like he can pull off a big win.
“I think we’re going to win,” Resnick stated. “I’d love to win both of them, U-CAR and Late Model. We haven’t had a chance to test with the weather. Randall with Short Track Engineering, he helps Clay Jones out, he’s been helping with the Late Model so I feel like we’ll be good. We’ve got a new motor and new clip from Hedgecock. I feel like we’ll win a lot of races, I’m excited.”
