SOUTH BOSTON, VA. :: Lee Pulliam has visited Victory Lane 14 times at South Boston Speedway in 2013. He would like to notch his 15th and 16th triumphs of the season Saturday night when America’s Hometown Track hosts the Italian Delight Family Restaurant presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Night racing program.
Pulliam, who has motored to 22 victories overall this season, currently leads the chase for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship by 26 points over Deac McCaskill, who has posted 14 overall wins in 2013.
As part of the Italian Delight Family Restaurant presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Night racing program Saturday night, twin 75-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division will be run. The first of six total races scheduled Saturday night will get cranked up at 7 p.m.
In addition to bidding for two more NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division wins Saturday night, Pulliam will be trying to fend off a host of talented bounty hunters. A bounty on Pulliam that began at $500 has now grown to $2,500 heading into Saturday night as Pulliam has won four consecutive races since the bounty was put in place.
South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice has said that Pulliam must still be competing at the end of the race for a driver to claim the bounty, and she added that Pulliam can also claim the bounty if he elects to start from the rear of the field and attempt to work his way to the front to score his 15th victory of the campaign at America’s Hometown Track.
In addition to the twin races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division, the PASS Super Late Models will return to America’s Hometown Track this weekend for an event.
The PASS Super Late Models were slated to battle in a race on Aug. 17 at America’s Hometown Track; however, that event was rained out.
Grandstand tickets from the Aug. 17 event will be honored at the Aug. 31 event at South Boston Speedway. South Boston Speedway officials also announced this week that Saturday would be Carload Night at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval. No matter how many people are in the car, $20 will serve as the admission price for everyone. The $20 Carload special excludes vans, SUVs, and Trucks. Regular admission will be $10 for adults and children under the age of six will be admitted free with a paid adult.
Saturday night’s appearance by he PASS Super Late Model Series will mark their second of the season at America’s Hometown Track. Ross Kenseth, son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Matt Kenseth, claimed the victory on May 11 when the PASS Series competed at South Boston Speedway
Kenseth took the lead on lap 135 and then held off Grissom down the stretch to post the victory. Fogleman, Preston Peltier and Kyle Moon rounded out the top five finishers.
Also scheduled as part of the Italian Delight Family Restaurant presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Night racing program will be an event for the Limited Sportsman Division and a pair of races for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.
Danny Willis Jr. has opened a sizable cushion in the chase for the Limited Sportsman Division crown. Garrett Bunch is second in the standings and is only 10 points ahead of third-place Blake Stallings. Michael Maresca is in fourth place. He is six points behind Stallings and 17 points ahead of fifth-place Tommy Peregoy.
Joe Allred continues to lead the way in the battle for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division crown. Stuart Crews is second in the standings and is followed by Austin Milam in third place, Randy Hupp in fourth and Bruce Mayo in the fifth position.
Grandstand gates will open Saturday at 5 p.m. Qualifying time trials will also begin at 5:30 p.m.
