Dillon, SC(March 15, 2012) — Welcome to the first ever edition of the PRW(Performancenter Racing Warehouse) Power Rankings for Super Late Models and more specifically in this edition, the PASS South Series.
RACE22.com is ramping up our coverage of the Super Late Model division with plans to cover every PASS South Series race as well as select other events. We got the start this past weekend as we delivered you the full rundown from the season opener and info on the race and a victory lane faster than anyone in the business. We’re stepping up the way we cover races and the PASS South Series races are at the top of our priority list.
Check out the list below of the Top Ten Most Powerful Drivers from the PASS South Series season opener at Dillon Motor Speedway courtesy of the PRW Super Late Model Chassis available only at Performancenter Racing Warehouse. We’ll be doing a Power Rankings list between every race on the PASS South Series schedule as well as lists for some of the big Super Late Model races. Check back often for more.
Stephen Nasse isn’t a familiar name in the PASS South Series, but when he shows up to race you can usually find him in the top two or three. This past weekend was no different. He lead the most laps Saturday night, but wasn’t able to secure the victory. If Nasse does run the full tour this year, watch out. He is sure to be in content at every event.
He won the 2010 championship and then didn’t find victory lane at all in 2011. There’s no better way to end a losing streak, then to start the season off in victory lane. Peltier wasn’t fast all afternoon at Dillon. He started from the fourteenth spot, but methotically worked his way through the field and by lap 100 was giving Nasse a run for his money. Peltier lead the final fourty some odd curcuits and crusied to victory for the first time at Dillon Motor Speedway. If Saturday night is any indication, Peltier might be the man to beat in 2012.
The veteran driver started fourth on Saturday night, and never fell out of the top five during the entire event. Fogleman lead laps, and even gave race winner Preston Peltier a run in the closing stages of the race, but couldn’t make anything happen. Like usual, Fogleman will be tough to beat at all the PASS South races this season. He may even be the number one contender for the tour championship this year.
The all-time wins leader for the PASS South Series has made the annual trip to South Carolina several times to kick off his season. He won the South Carolina Clash back in 2009, and has won several of the big races that PASS puts on. We didn’t hear much out of Rowe on Saturday night though as he hung around in the top five for the majority of the event, never really giving the leaders a run for their money.
You’re probably wondering … Kyle Grissom on a Super Late Model Power Rankings? Yea, this is the first of three Late Model Stock Car veterans that have turned to Super Late Model racing this year. Grissom, in his first start qualified third, and brought the Performancenter Racing Warehouse car home in the fifth position. Not bad for his first attempt.
Campbell is the second of the LMSC veterans on this list. Sure he was disqualified after inspection, but Campbell wheeled his machine the whole night. He was invovled in the first caution of the night which knocked the right front fender and hood off. Then was involved in the second caution which finished the right front fender. He slowly worked his way through the field and when the rag fell was in the top five. Pretty impressive for a car that’s only made laps in testing.
Brandon Ward and Dillon Motor Speedway must have a love/hate relationship. In 2010, Ward had problems that wouldn’t allow him to compete in the South Carolina Clash. This year Ward started tenth and worked his way up through the top ten. Problems late in the going would religate him to an eighth place finish. Ward has shown that he can contend for wins, it’s just a matter of time before he clicks off several.
Not many people know the name Brandon Jones, but after this past weekend, more do. Jones had a quiet run on Saturday night, starting sevententh. Jones quietly rode for the first hundred laps then turned the wick up during the final ten to bring home a seventh place finish in his debut PASS South race. Look for this young driver to improve over the season, and who knows he may contend for a win or two.
Another former Late Model Stock Car driver turned Super Late Model wheel. After starting in 21st, David worked his way up through the field, and by the time the checkered flag fell, LaTour was running in the top ten. Look for David to contend up front often this year. He may not be the fastest, but he’ll bring the car home in the top ten almost everytime.
He may have finished a lap down, but Kenseth was running up front before his slide started. At one point he and Johnny Sauter were battling side by side for numerous laps for a top five position. Either the tires went away or the handling on the car went away. But, look for Kenseth to be up front at several of the PASS races in the near future.
