CONCORD, NC :: Preston Peltier’s only goal in Sunday’s Snowball Derby is to be hoisting the Tom Dawson Trophy at the end of the 300-lap event.
Peltier enters the race with three wins on the season, all coming in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) and all three being consecutive victories. He’s also competed in the Deep South based Southern Super Series (SSS) where, in 2013, he scored the victory in the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park.
“Our expectations are to win,” a confident Peltier stated. “We tested Sunday and we have some speed, it feels good. Tire wear is pretty critical and I think I excel at that so we’ll have to see how it shakes out.”
Peltier knows that the Snowball Derby boasts the toughest competition in Super Late Model racing but he also knows he can compete against those drivers.
“It’s not like we’re racing a bunch of guys we haven’t raced against before. I’ve run against Bubba [Pollard] and Augie [Grill] when I go to Florida and Georgia and they’re beatable. I beat them at the World Crown and I don’t expect anything less this year. We had a big money win against the same guys last year so I’m expecting to go out there and have a good performance.”
Peltier’s 2014 season consisted mostly of races in PASS where he picked up wins at Hickory Motor Speedway, South Boston Speedway and Southern National Motorsports Park. As of now, Peltier says he’s focused on getting through this weekend and then will look ahead to 2015 after the Snowball Derby.
