Practice is underway at Carteret County Speedway ahead of Sunday’s race, the inaugural race. Already, the drivers have formed an opinion of what to expect.

Haley Moody was quickest in the first Late Model practice session with a 16.914 second lap. Michael Fose and Jeff Oakley were also fast.

Moody said she likes the track but it’s hard to gage how the car will race since this practice session is in the heat of the day and the race is at night. She does like the track though.

Fose believes it will be difficult to pass, saying it’s a one grove track that may require “a little nose”.

Jeff Oakley still hopes he has an edge with his flat track experience from his Langley Speedway years.

“It’s not different,” Oakley said. “You can’t charge the corner … You always see front bumper used but you don’t need it of you have a good car.”

Clay Jones expects the racing to be similar to Wake County. His nation focus is making changes to the car and getting used to the flat Carteret racetrack.

Cory Walker expects drivers to be aggressive with the race being a short race and the track beyond a flat, one groove track.
