EASLEY, SC :: Randy Porter held off Kenneth Headen at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on Saturday night to score the victory in the season opening race of the 2014 SouthEast Super Truck Series tour.

Headen, who won the track championship at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in 2004, was the fastest qualifier with a time of 20.946, but had to start fifth after an inversion.  That invert put rookie driver Cole Glasson on the pole for the race.   Six-time track champion Ward took the lead on the first restart of the race.  Porter, a three time track champion, followed to take second and then took the lead from Ward.  Porter and Ward swapped the lead a couple times before Porter finally prevailed.  Porter also exchanged the lead with Headen, who went on to finish second, multiple times in the race as well.

“We knew before the race that the favorites would be Kenneth, Marty and I’d fall in there somewhere,” Porter said.  “You had local guys that run well here weekly and Kenneth has won 25-30 of these things here before he started touring.  We knew they would be the ones to beat and that’s how it stacked up in qualifying and in the race for the most part.  Marty had trouble and Kenneth, it was just a matter of who was ahead of who on the restarts.”

Headen led on multiple occasions but had to settle for second.

“It’s a disappointing day not winning,” Headen said.  “We had some carburetor issues in qualifying and we couldn’t change it.  It was fine during the first part of the race then it started stumbling and skipping later in the race.  We’ll take this race and go to Hickory and see what we’ve got there.”

Tim Lollis finished in third while Jamie Tate and Wally Fowler rounded out the top-five.

The next race on the SouthEast Super Truck Series tour is Hickory Motor Speedway on March 22nd.
