Peyton Sellers wasn’t a huge factor in the season opener a week ago at South Boston Speedway but today he put his Sellers Racing entry on the pole for today’s 100-lap Late Model Stock Car race.
Sellers turned in a lap of 15.508 which was just fast enough to best Austin Thaxton who turned a 15.513. Thaxton had paced last practice and was the favorite for the pole after winning last weeks pole and being in contention to win in both of the twin races. Philip Morris posted the third fastest speed with a lap of 15.554 just slightly faster than Bobby McCarty 15.582.
Last weeks two-time winner Matt Bowling posted the fifth fastest speed in qualifying with a lap of 15.590 which gave him a slight advantage over three-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car National Champion Lee Pulliam who turned a 15.599 for sixth position. Josh Oakley, Brenden Queen, Chuck Lawson and Dennis Holdren completed the top ten qualifiers.
This weeks field has been thinned greatly compared to opening weeks 31 car field with just 21 entries making the trek to South Boston for the race today.
