Timothy Peters captured the Hedgecock Racing Pole Award in his first career attempt at a CARS Tour event with a new track record of 14.292 seconds around the .375-mile track, just ahead of Stefan Parsons.

Peters jumped out to the early lead, but it only took three laps before Deac McCaskill moved to the head of the field.  JR Motorsports standout Josh Berry slotted in third around Parsons and gave chase on the lead duo.

RD Smith, after starting fifth, quickly moved up to second by lap 50 after he displaced Peters and began to pressure McCaskill for the lead. Contact between the two leaders tore away the right front fender from Smith’s ride on lap 108 and the ensuing caution flag ultimately ended any chance Smith had at his first career CARS Tour victory.

After a quick series of restarts, Peters ascended to second launched around McCaskill to retake the lead on lap 114. Peters held on for the win over a hard-charging McCaskill, Berry, Myatt Snider and Tommy Lemons, Jr.

“It’s really good and I like the pulp right now,” said a jubilant Peters after his win, referring to the orange juice winners were given to celebrate.  “CARS Tour is such a great series and this is our first time here.  Thanks to the fans for everything. It’s for these guys [the crew] right here.  They work hard and we run Brandon Pierce at South Boston and he is doing a great job with that.  Our little program is something to be reckon with. It’s just so fun to come out here and run door to door with some of the best late model guys in the country.

“We just had to save our stuff and it is so disciplined to do that because of the surface.  Everybody kept me calm and David Triplett, who I battled here for championships for years, was my spotter and crew chief tonight, so this is pretty cool for us to come together and win as a team,” he continued. “Hats off to Deac [McCaskill], Josh Berry, Tommy Lemons and Myatt Snider and all the guys that run the CARS Tour.  Deac and I, one night, ran side by side for 130 laps and we never touched.  It was like old times again.  It’s pretty cool.”
