PASS North Returns To Action Sunday At Oxford Plains

NAPLES, ME :: To say competitors in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Model division are ready to race again could certainly qualify as an understatement.  It has been over a month since Patrick Laperle won the Frameco 150 at Autodrome Chaudiere in Quebec thanks to rain outs at both White Mountain Motorsports Park and Speedway 660.  With that being said, PASS officials decided to add an event for this Sunday at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway to offset those cancellations.  The Oxford event will complete a busy weekend along the Atlantic Seaboard that begins with the PASS South Super Late Models racing the day before at Southern National Motorsports Park in North Carolina.

In the PASS North season opener at Oxford Plains back in April, series veteran Cassius Clark and Joey Doiron waged an extremely hard fought battle over the final 50 laps for the win.  When all was said and done, Clark took the checkered flag to solidify his status as a championship contender in 2013 and will enter this weekend as one of the favorites for the win.

“We are really looking forward to getting back to Oxford where we won the opening race and had a lot of success in the past,” said Clark.

But perhaps one of the biggest factors for teams competing at Oxford on Sunday is this event’s proximity to the 40th Annual TD Bank 250.  PASS North Super Late Model teams will get a valuable opportunity to race at Oxford in conditions very similar to those they will see there in July.  And, with $25,000 on the line and a chance to win the biggest asphalt short track race in North America, Clark and his fellow racers are more than glad to have some added track time at Oxford Plains.

“I like the addition of the race,” explained Clark.  “It will give us another shot at preparation for the big race coming in July [TD Bank 250].  All these rainouts are driving this Hight Motorsports team crazy and we are all excited to get back to racing.”

Clark will no doubt have his work cut out for him as he seeks another win at Oxford Plains.  Another full field of the Northeast’s best drivers will be assembled for the 150 lapper.  Former series champions Johnny Clark and Ben Rowe, who have won a combined total of 10 PASS North championships, will lead the fray to Oxford along with former three-time TD Bank 250 winner Mike Rowe.  PASS North points leader Joey Doiron and 2012 champion Travis Benjamin will be looking for their first wins of the season.  New Hampshire natives DJ Shaw and Bryan Kruczek will also be hoping for a shot at the front of the field. Maine drivers Curtis Gerry, Corey Bubar, David Oliver, David Farrington, Jr., and Mike Landry, will be joined by Massachusetts veteran Tony Ricci and New Brunswick’s Matt Matheson in seeking an always prestigious win at Oxford.

Action gets underway Sunday afternoon at Oxford Plains Speedway with rotating practice for the PASS North Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds, Outlaws, Minis, and Street beginning at noon followed by heat races at4 PM and main event racing afterwards.
