Manassas, VA(November 25, 2012) – It’s not likely the Capital Region will see Late Model Stock Car racing in 2013.  In an interview with the region’s most credible news source, and one of the nation’s top news sources, Old Dominion Speedway Owner Steve Britt said it was possible, but not likely, the track would host racing action in 2013.

The Washington Post reports:

A more than 60-year-old racetrack in Prince William County has likely seen its final races, as the Board of County Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved an upscale housing development in its place.

Events and noise at Old Dominion Speedway increased in recent years, and so have complaints from neighbors. Many who moved into nearby subdivisions did not know or fully understand the impact the storied raceway would have on their property values or quality of life.

Plans are in place to build an all-purpose motorsports complex in Thornburg, Virginia, but the plan still must be approved by the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors.  The complex would consist of an oval and a dragstrip, much like the existing Manassas complex, as well as a road course and a few dining and retail outlets.

The current Manassas location of Old Dominion Speedway is under contract to be sold in April, which is the traditional opening month of racing at the 3/8 mile facility.  If approved by Spotsylvania County, Dominion Raceway, the proposed all-purpose facility in Thornburg, will be under construction in 2013 and will be opening in 2014.
