Josh Oakley passed Chuck Lawson on a late restart and took his first 2015 victory in the 75 lap late model stock race at Orange County Speedway on Saturday night.
Oakley’s pass was the last of several lead changes that marked the thrilling event. Pole sitter Chris Denny, Thomas Scott and Lawson all had a turn at the front. Craig Moore also looked to be a strong threat before spinning on the backstretch while battling Scott for second. Moore was actually fast qualifier, but had to start sixth after winning two races in succession per OCS rules. He charged back through the field to finish fourth behind Oakley, Lawson and Scott.
The race was part of the Military Appreciation Night program at the three-eighths mile speed plant. After the race, a brief altercation between the crews of drivers Grayson Massey and Mason Hudson was quickly taken care of by track security.
Lawson earlier out dueled Layne Riggs to win a 35 lap limited sportsman feature. It was his second triumph of the season in that division.
