Newport Speedway’s Grand Reopening after being closed for the entire 2015 season will have to wait a week as original plans to open on April 2nd have been pushed back.
The new opening date will be April 9th. The change comes due to weather during the winter making it tough for the track to get things ready in time for the season opener. A post on their Facebook page explained the decision.
“That said, Andy (Hyde) has been working hard and around the clock to get the track up to snuff for this year and so far a lot of work has been done to the track and more planned. This upcoming week will see the replacement of the backstretch fencing and buckets of paint should be delivered tomorrow to give the walls a nice coat of clean fresh white around it. However, due to the stuff that still needs to be done, in conjunction with weather that has not been cooperative, Newport Speedway has decided to move the opening date of racing from April 2nd back a week to April 9th instead. Hopefully by then, the weather will have been more cooperative and all of the projects will be completed with that extra week. We want to make sure that the track is both looking good and is safe for competition.”
Newport Speedway is also finalizing their 2016 season schedule and hope to unveil it as soon as possible.
