MYRTLE BEACH, SC :: Myrtle Beach Speedway will be doing something unique on Saturday night. Citing competition from other entertainment venues in Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach Speedway announced they would offer free general admission for Saturday night’s NASCAR Whelen All American Series race at the historic track. The open house will be a chance for fans and visitors of the region to watch the races and the track hopes will attract fans to come back.
Along with the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Models, the Coastal Pee Dee Super Trucks will also be in action at Myrtle Beach Speedway and fans will get the chance to walk their dog around the track before the racing program begins.
“We’re trying to get a crowd,” Myrtle Beach Speedway Competition Director and Media Relations Director Bill Hennecy said. “It’s an open house where fans can get an introduction to the track. It’s like walking through the mall and getting free food samples.”
Hennecy stated that the track is unique in terms of the competition they get from other entertainment venues in the region such as theaters and nightclubs, among other things. Saturday night’s race will also be the final time the track races on Saturday night in the 2013 regular season. After this race, the regular season races will be run on Thursday nights during the summer.
Hennecy said the track usually gets higher car counts on Thursday nights, stating that it gives a chance for drivers that compete at other tracks in the region to all race at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Hennecy says it’s also a prime opportunity to get fans to attend the speedway because Thursday nights are usually the last night before tourists head home and that they are aware of the race for a full week before the race, explaining that the track advertises in local media.
So far this season, Sam Yarbrough has won in both regular season events at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Anthony Anders also has a victory at Myrtle Beach Speedway after winning the Myrtle Beach 400, a race that was postponed from last November. The PASS South Super Late Model Series have also competed at Myrtle Beach Speedway, the first time the Super Late Model tour has visited the track. That race was won by Kyle Grissom. Entering the Coastal Pee Dee Super Truck Series race at Myrtle Beach, Hal Goodson sits undefeated on the season with two victories at Dillon Motor Speedway.
The grandstands open at 5pm for Saturday night’s race. The Late Model race and the Super Truck races will both be 40 laps in distance while the Charger and Mini-Stock divisions will also race with the Mini-Stocks racing for 20 laps and the Chargers for 25 laps.
