Burt Myers and Jason Myers are first and second in points in the KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series as the tour heads to Carteret County Speedway for the first time on Saturday night.
Saturday night’s race will be the first time Modifieds have taken to the flat, 4/10-mile oval in Swansboro, North Carolina. “The Race”, as it has been dubbed, will be the second race held in the track’s young history after multiple races were rained out in September and October.
Burt Myers enters the race with four wins on the season in the KOMA Modified tour — the only driver in the series with multiple victories. He holds a 25 point advantage over Jason Myers, who scored a win at Kingsport Speedway back in May. Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield will also be a headline driver at Carteret County Speedway for the KOMA Modified race. Mayfield has previously been at Carteret County, saying the track is one of the nicest tracks he has ever been to.
Gary Putnam won the most recent KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series race at Orange County Speedway. However, Burt Myers will likely be the favorite in Saturday night’s race given his success at Langley Speedway, where he has two wins in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Carteret County Speedway is very similar in layout to Langley.
The throwback spirit of Carteret County Speedway will be experienced with the East Coast Flathead Ford Racing Association and the Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club. The two series will bring vintage racecars to the Crystal Coast’s throwback facility. In addition to the KOMA Modified Tour and the vintage racing tours, Carteret County Speedway will hosts Legends racing and Mini-Stock racing.
Qualifying for “The Race” at Carteret County Speedway begins at 5:30pm on Saturday, racing starts at 7pm.
