ROUGEMONT, NC :: Craig Moore took advantage of a restart following a caution flag with less than 25 laps to go and raced to victory in the featured 75 lap late model stock car race at Orange County Speedway on Saturday night April 27.

The race was redemption of sorts for Moore who had led the first 93 laps of a 100 lap event two weeks earlier only to spin from the front spot with seven laps to go. Moore started from the fourth spot this time around as Tripp Massengill led the 11 car field from the pole. An opening lap altercation between Terry Dease and Chris Denny brought out the caution and eventually led to a complete restart.  Outside pole sitter Thomas Scott led the opening 14 laps before Moore took his first tour of the lead for 26 circuits.

Massengill led the next 10 rounds before a mandatory caution was thrown to check tires.  Moore emerged from the restart fracas to scoot away to an advantage he would hold to the end.

“I don’t think we had the best car tonight”  he would state in victory lane  ” but everything worked out for us “.  Massengill hung on for second, but was not pleased at the outcome.

“I don’t know why they threw the  last caution flag ” he mused. But the track had announced earlier that a mandatory caution would be used after 50 green flag laps to insure that there would not be a problem with blistered tires.

The race was halted for nearly an hour after a track worker was struck by the car of Dease under the opening lap caution. The worker sustained injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Durham. Updates and details on the condition of the individual will be updated on the OCS facebook page and at OCStrack.com.
