It’s Mother’s Day Weekend and South Boston Speedway is ready to celebrate with all moms and NASCAR Whelen All American Series short track racing fans in the region.
America’s Hometown Track will be honoring all moms on Mother’s Day Weekend as part of the running of the Charles Anderson Lawn Care NASCAR Late Model Twin 75s racing program Saturday night, May 9.
To honor all moms, South Boston Speedway is offering them admission to Saturday night’s racing action for the discounted price of $5. The night of racing will get cranked up at 7 p.m. and will feature six events on the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval.
The featured attractions of the night will be twin 75-lap races for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. Through the first five NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division events of the campaign, there have been four different winners.
Two-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Lee Pulliam is the only drivers to have visited Victory Lane twice this season and he heads into Saturday night’s racing action with a slim one-point lead over former South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division champion Matt Bowling.
Bowling has one win this season. Other winners in the division in 2015 include Philip Morris, a former NASCAR Whelen All American Series nation champion, and current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series standout Timothy Peters.
Also scheduled as part of the Charles Anderson Lawn Care NASCAR Late Model Twin 75s racing program are 50-lap events for the Limited Sportsman Division and the Modified Division, as well as events for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Budweiser Hornets.
Danny Willis Jr., the two-time defending Limited Sportsman Division champion, has managed a pair of wins in the first three events of the season and owns an eight-point edge over Trey Crews in the battle for the division crown.
Stuart Crews has recorded one win this season and leads Greg Autry by five points in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings.
The leader in the Modified Division point standings is one-time winner Jimmy Humblet, while Eric Winslow, a two-time victor in 2015, sits atop the point standings in the Budweiser Hornets Division.
Registration and pit gates will open Saturday at 2 p.m. with practice for all divisions scheduled from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 5:30 p.m.
Adult admission is $10. Children, ages six and under, will be admitted free with an adult.
