PUNTA GORDA, FL :: The sun shone brightly as the 2015 racing season began at Three Palms Speedway in Punta Gorda, Florida and the hill and frontstretch were packed with fans.
Buzzie Reutimann was in attendance giving ride-alongs in his son’s Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota that was actually raced used at Watkins Glen. Buzzie spent the night giving rides and talking with fans. He said, “We have to get the youngsters interested in the sport for the sport to grow.”
When racing started, it was hot and heavy as Drew Allen won the Street Stock feature. In the Thunder Truck feature, Lance Sober held off the advances of James Wright to take the checkered flag.
The bomber division saw Dean Butrum hold off a strong field of cars to take the home the checkered. Chris Looney charged from the back of the field to take the trophy in the Pure Stock division on what was turning out to be beautiful night for racing. In Sportsman racing, Bobby Mobley from Eagle Lake led wire-to-wire to the checkers. Dwarf action saw John Aperthon from Cape Coral take the checkers. Cameron Cruse won the outlaws feature.
The final checkered flag fell for the evening at 8:50. Fans and teams enjoyed a nice wonderful evening under the stars for the quick racing action.
