On his first trip to Carteret County Speedway, 13-year-old Mini Tyrrell had a strong car but shifting issues relegated him to a fourth-place finish.
This time he’s returning with laps on the 4/10 mile speed plant under his belt.
“I’m excited to get back down there and get some laps on that track,” said Mini. “We had a good car last time and just had a couple of issues that kept us from being in the mix for the win. I think we can move up a couple spots and maybe even compete for the win.”
Mini had a bolt back out from the shifter during the Mom’s the Bomb 255 two weeks ago at Carteret which hurt his restarts and kept him from mixing it up with the leaders.
“The shifting issue really hurt our restarts. I like to think I’m pretty good on restarts and we just really struggled with that. They’ve got some really good cars at Carteret and I think we can compete for the win if we get everything right.”
Mini’s season has been off to slow start with weather issues and other obligations but as the summer heats up, so will his schedule.
“We’re just getting going with racing this season. We got an early start at Tri-County but that wreck, the weather around the region and obligations for Mini’s Mission have only allowed us to get a couple races in but we have a full schedule this summer and we’ll really ramp up this fall when I turn 14.”
