On the heels of his second Late Model Stock Car championship at Shenandoah Speedway and coming off a strong fourth place finish in the Spooktacular Limited Late Model race at Southern National Motorsports Park, Timmy “Mini” Tyrrell is looking forward to getting back to Southern National for the Thanksgiving Classic.
Despite being just 13 years old, Mini, as he’s affectionately known, will compete again for the second year in a row in the Limited Late Model feature during the 17th running of the Thanksgiving Classic. The annual Thanksgiving Day weekend event at Southern National Motorsports Park attracts the biggest names in a variety of racing divisions all to compete for one last weekend of racing on the 4/10 mile high banked track.
Mini most recently competed in the Spooktacular at Southern National which is a traditional Halloween weekend event headlined by the Limited Late Model division. Mini raced among the leaders all race long only to get shuffled back to a fourth place finish in a scramble at the end. Mini is eager to better his position in this weekends Thanksgiving Classic.
“We had a really good car down there in October,” said Mini. “Brandon (Butler, his crew chief) and the guys gave me a great car that kept us running in the top two or three all day but we didn’t get as good of run on the last restart as we needed and settled for fourth. We’re looking to better that this weekend.”
Mini and the rest of the Limited Late Model drivers will get two chances to shine on this weekend as this years Thanksgiving Classic features a 40-lap Dash for Cash race on Friday night and a 75-lap main event on Saturday night. Mini and his team are prepared to contend despite knowing the best of the best Limited Late Model racers in the region are coming to Southern National this weekend.
“There’s a lot of good cars coming to Southern National this weekend. We know we’re going to have to beat the best Limited drivers out there to get a win. I’m grateful to be able to race against these guys and while I want to win, I want to continue to earn their respect. These two races will end our season and we’d like to go out on a good note.”
