SWANSBORO, NC – Mike Ganoe scored his first career Late Model victory at Shenandoah Speedway in Virginia on Saturday night. Instead of spending Sunday celebrating, he made the six hour drive to Carteret County Speedway to compete in Sunday night’s grand opening.
Ganoe joins Zachary Marks, Wesley Johnson and “Showtime” Sammy Pacitti as some of the late arrivals to roll in on Sunday morning.
“I can blame this on Herman Gant. He’s the one who talked me into coming,” Ganoe said. “That’s about the only thing I can say. We decided last week we were going to take a look at it. He talked me into coming down here so here we are.”
Ganoe feels confident heading into Sunday night’s race but he does realizes the challenge ahead of him with Carteret County Speedway being very different from Shenandoah Speedway.
“It’s asphalt and round so we’ll give her a whirl,” Ganoe said. “Back-to-back would be great but this track is different. It’s totally different than Shenandoah. We’re going to have some fun and that’s what it’s about.”
Ganoe is a rookie in Late Model racing despite being 50 years old. Saturday’s victory was his first win in a Late Model, but not his first win as a racecar driver.
