RIDGEWAY, VA :: Two of the region’s most respected and consumer-oriented businesses, Martinsville Speedway and Martinsville DuPont Credit Union (MDCU), have joined forces for NASCAR’s biggest Late Model Stock Car race.
Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell announced today that Martinsville DuPont Credit Union will be the sponsor of the track’s prestigious Late Model Stock race. It is a multi-year agreement.
The MDCU 300 is scheduled for October 5.
“We are excited about Martinsville DuPont Credit Union coming aboard to sponsor our big Late Model race. We have a lot in common with them,” said Campbell. “We have both been in business in this region for more than 60 years, and for all those years, we both have put our customers first. It is a philosophy that will fit perfectly with the MDCU 300 as we continue to keep fans and competitors happy with the biggest Late Model race in the country.”
Martinsville DuPont Credit Union has served southwest Virginia since 1953 and has $274 million in assets with 27,000 members. MDCU is a full-service financial institution that offers consumer and commercial products and services. Headquartered in Martinsville, MDCU operates three branch offices in the Martinsville, Collinsville and Rocky Mount communities.

The NASCAR Late Model Stock Car division is the proving grounds for many young drivers starting their climb up the stock-car ladder. Some of the biggest names in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck series over the past couple of decades competed in Late Models at Martinsville. Denny Hamlin, Jeff Burton, Mark Martin, Timothy Peters, Jeb Burton and Elliott Sadler all raced Late Models at Martinsville.
The MDCU 300 provides Late Model competitors the only chance each year to race on a track where NASCAR’s Sprint Cup stars also compete. That racing tradition, along with a $25,000 first-place payoff, the biggest in NASCAR Late Model racing, helps attract over 100 teams to the event each fall.
“We hear it every year from the drivers … that the MDCU 300 is their biggest race of the year. It is their Daytona 500 and Super Bowl combined,” said Campbell. “While the race is important to them, the drivers and teams are important to us. It’s where our stars of tomorrow come from.”
