DENVER, NC :: Matt McCall will be piloting the #92 Black’s Tire Chevrolet Silveradoon Wednesday August 21st when the Camping World Truck Series hits the track for the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway. “I am very excited to get this opportunity.” McCall said. “Especially at one of my favorite race tracks.”
McCall, who is currently a race engineer on the #31 CAT Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup Series, is known for being a dominate Late Model Stock Driver, earning over 75 wins in his Stock car career. One of those came at Bristol Motor Speedway in March of 2009 in the UARA Series. McCall started from the pole after putting down a fast lap of 15.44, he lead nearly every lap and ended the evening in Victory Lane. Reflecting on that, McCall stated, “My win at Bristol is one of the most memorable ones.”
For the last three years McCall has been a full time Engineer at Richard Childress Racing. In 2011 and 2012 he was the Engineer on the #22 RCR Truck with Joey Coulter. This year he is working in the Sprint Cup Series with Jeff Burton. “I have learned a lot in the past couple of years and enjoy working with the guys at RCR.” McCall stated. “Ultimately, if I am not driving, I want to be a Crew Chief and that is what I am working towards.”
While working at RCR, McCall’s seat time has been limited. “Unfortunately, I don’t have much time to race these days but whenever I can I am there!” McCall said. “My schedule is pretty busy.” Referring to the Sprint Cup schedule which spans over a nine month period and only has a few off weekends.
In addition to that he keeps up his MX3 Consulting business for Late Model Stock Drivers. “I love racing, it is in my blood. It’s what I do, all the time.”
McCall’s last Camping World Truck Series start was at Martinsville Speedway in October 2003. “It’s been awhile since I got to race a truck.” McCall said. “I can’t wait to get back at it, go in circles and hopefully get a good finish for the RBR team.”
The UNOH 200 will be televised on the new Fox Sports 1, Wednesday August 21st at 8pm.
