TAYLORSVILLE N.C. (December 1, 2011)- Tripp Massengill won the Case Auto Parts 100 Southeast Limited Late Model Series Pro division season finale on Sunday afternoon after inheriting the lead as the leaders were Black Flagged for jumping the restart in the 100-lap limited late model race portion of the Myrtle Beach 400 weekend.
Calhoun driving a Dillon Motor Speedway owner Ron Barfield prepared machine won the pole for the Pro division event. At the drop of the green flag Jason put on a dominating performance leading the first 72 laps of the event, at times even had a commanding straightaway lead.
But a lap 73 crash involving approx 20 cars brought out the red flag for approx. 30 minutes as crews cleaned up the carnage of torn up race cars. Most cars involved in the wreck were sidelined for the day. Once back under green Calhoun would swap the lead with several challengers but it was after a caution on lap 83 for a late race spin that brought controversy. On the ensuing restart the front row of Calhoun and Ryan Glenski both were black flagged for jumping the restart. As per SELLM rules the flagman restarts the race and Race Director Bill Hennecy felt both left a little early.
The race from that point was a 3 cars race for the checkers was between Massengill, Chris Chapman and Barry Andrews, with Massengill pulling away in the closing laps for his third Victory of the season. Chapman, Andrews, Christian PaHud and Jake Morris rounded out the Top 5.
Saturday night the Challenger portion of the Southeast Limited event performed for the crowd in attendance. Justin Crider and Jeremy Pelfrey would lead them to the Green with Pelfrey taking the lead as Crider would settle in second followed by Langley, Archie Adams Sr. and Brandon Clements. Pelfrey would hold on to the lead but Langley was hot on this heels as the caution fell on lap 16 for Chesapeake Va. Driver J.T. Jackson spins to bring out the caution.
On the restart Langley would keep stride for stride with Pelfrey and make a power move into turn one and was able to clear Pelfrey exiting turn two. The cars of Sam Scarpelli and J.T. Jackson were working through the field as Jackie Ward would go around in turn two bring out yet another caution. Back under green Langley and Pelfrey would again battle for the lead as they pulled away from Crider. Deeper in the field Jackson and Scarpelli were battling and Jackson would spin trying to avoid contact on Lap 28 of the 40 lap event.
Langley would hold on to pick up his second win of the 2011 season followed by Pelfrey, and Scarpelli, Crider, and Jackson who went side by side with Tommy Neal for the last five laps to complete the Top 5.
Chris Chapman and Justin Crider with their Top 5 finishes held on to win their respective Divisions in the 2011Southeast Limited Late Model Series Championship.
