TROY, NC :: Tommy Lemons, Jr. and Lemons Motorsports will head to Southern National Motorsports Park, where Lemons scored three victories in 2013, on Saturday afternoon for the opening race of the 2014 Late Model Stock Car racing season.
Lemons enters 2014 with a lot of confidence after winning the crowned jewel event in Late Model racing, the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway, last season. He’s anxious to get back on the track and chase a NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Championship.
“Last year was just amazing,” Lemons said. “We had some bad luck but winning Martinsville made up for it. We’ve been working hard on this offseason on my car and on Craig Stallard’s car. I’m feeling really good about this season.”
Three of Lemons’ six wins in 2013 came at Southern National Motorsports Park. Lemons hopes to add to that this year.
“We had struggled in the past at Southern National,” Lemons stated. “We figured some things out last season. There’s some tough competition that races there and any win at Southern National is hard fought and well deserved. I sure hope we can add some more wins this season.”
Along with Southern National, Lemons will again compete at Motor Mile Speedway.
“I feel like there were some races we could have won and should have won at Motor Mile,” Lemons remarked. “We had competitive cars there. Luck just wasn’t on our side. We had a few races where we were running top-five and just taking care of the car and biding our time and we just got caught up in some wrecks. I feel like we should be competitive again this year.”
Along with Lemons’ car, Lemons Motorsports will also field a car for Craig Stallard at Southern National. Stallard made his first start for Lemons Motorsports back on December 1, 2013 in the Thanksgiving All-Star Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park. Stallard finished ninth in the race.
Saturday’s race at Southern National Motorsports Park will consist of twin 75 lap Late Model feature races with the green flag waving at 2pm EST. Southern National Motorsports Park is located just outside of Kenly, NC near I-95 and US-301. For more information on Southern National, visit www.snmpark.com.
