COEBURN, VA :: After weeks of rumors regarding the future of Lonesome Pine Raceway in the coal mine regions of Southwestern Virginia, the track announced that they would remain open in 2014 under Ervin and Keith Stiltner who recently took over Kingsport Speedway in Tennessee. The track is anticipated to open under NASCAR sanctioning though no sanctioning agreement has been signed.
Lonesome Pine Raceway will operate as a sister track which is located about 40 minutes away from Lonesome Pine. Kingsport races Friday nights under the NASCAR banner while Lonesome Pine, which was previously sanctioned by ASA, races Saturday nights. The tracks will share the same rules in 2014.
Lonesome Pine Raceway, which is located near the borders of Tennessee and Kentucky, will also hosts the PASS South Super Late Model Series on August 2nd.
Lonesome Pine Raceway, which boasts a breathtaking scenery of the mountains, is known for thrilling finishes and exciting racing. Nine different drivers won races in the Late Model Stock Car division at Lonesome Pine in 2013 with Ryan Stiltner winning the track championship.
