TROY, NC :: Tommy Lemons, Jr. finished in the top-five in both 100 lap feature races in the season opener at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday.  The strong performance at a track Lemons hasn’t had the best runs at proves he will be a contender in the Dirty Dozen.

Lemons started ninth in the first 100 lap feature.  He took advantage of the cone restarts and a fast car to work his way up to a third place finish.
“It was exciting to run this strong at Southern National,” Lemons said.  “We didn’t have the performances we hoped for here last year.  The third place effort in the first race got us started on the right foot.”
Lemons continued his strong showing in the second race.  After starting sixth, Lemons worked his way up to the third position and stayed there for much of the race.  Lemons wound up finishing fourth in the race.
“I’ll take that,” Lemons said.  “We had a great car all day.  We were consistent through all the weather changes and had a solid consistent effort.  I’m really excited about what we can do in the Dirty Dozen now.  We know we can win at Motor Mile and it looks like we have Southern National figured out.
“I think if we can qualify a little better, we can get a win here soon.  I’m feeling good about our upcoming races as well at South Boston and Myrtle Beach.  I want to win a lot of races, I expect to win races and I think we can win several races this year.”
The next race Lemons will run will be the twin 100 lap races at South Boston Speedway on March 9th.
