Tommy Lemons, Jr. has had a pretty good season so far with two wins on the CARS Tour and several other victories this season at tracks around the region including Myrtle Beach and Caraway.
However right now his focus is one race track and one trophy, the most important one of them all a grandfather clock from Martinsville Speedway.  Lemons already has two of them but he’s hoping that this years Valley Star Credit Union 300 yields he and his Lemons Motorsports team another one.
“It takes a lot of luck and a fast racecar here at Martinsville Speedway,” said Lemons during the recent test.  “It’s really more luck than being fast.  We’ve had good luck here over the last few seasons and I hope we can carry that into the raceon Sunday.”
Lemons tested strong unofficially the fastest of the more than 90 cars that took to the track last Thursday for the only test day of the year for this event.
“The car is decent, needs to be a little bit faster.  My team is good at dialing the car in here though and I think when we come back we’ll be where we need to be.”
Lemons knows that last year everything fell into place for him to be in the right place at the time but he’s hoping to be in a good position again this year.
“Well, last year, we got the invert and we were out front every lap for the last 50.  They had a chance to beat us but we won the race, I don’treally know how.  Todd (Gilliland) was good, there’s no doubt about that but we won the race.  The only thing people talk about is who won. If we’re not the fastest car this year we just hope to have luck on our side.”
Lemons goes into this race as the odds on favorite and when the race is on the line everyone expects him to be one of the key players for the win.
