Lee Pulliam has been placed on probation by NASCAR after hitting Josh Berry’s car after last Thursday’s Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at South Boston Speedway.
Berry had already been penalized for rough driving after the race after contact from Berry on the last lap relegated Pulliam to a 10th place finish. Berry’s penalty dropped him to a 17th place finish. Following the race, Pulliam retaliated and then voiced his frustrations with Berry on social media.
Pulliam has been placed on probation through December 31, 2015 for violating section 12-4A of the NASCAR rulebook, “Actions detrimental to stock car racing.”
The penalty is not Pulliam’s first. The two-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Champion was “suspended indefinitely” by NASCAR at the start of the 2012 season following an incident with Philip Morris after the 2011 South Boston 300. That suspension had been lifted by May and Pulliam went on to score 22 wins as well as his first of two consecutive national championships.
