Langley Speedway fans can sleep with peace tonight. The lease negotiations, which forced track promoter Chuck Hall to cancel practice last week, have been finalized and the lights will be turned on for the April 4th season opener as originally scheduled.
Bill Mullis, who leases the track from John H. Klich, III, told Hampton, Virginia’s Daily Press newspaper that the lease is valid for one year and that the 2015 season will begin on April 4th, as scheduled. This weekend’s planned open practice is also set to roll this weekend for all 11 divisions.
“We’ve got 750 tires on order from Hoosier, practices are set and we’re ready to go with our 65th anniversary season,” Mullis told the newspaper. “I believe it’s going to be the best season of my seven here. “There are a lot of new cars in the Late Model and Modified divisions, and the other divisions as well. We have strong car counts and a strong fan-base, so it’s going to be a (heck) of a show.”
Langley Speedway’s 65th season will be headlined by the 200-lap, $10,000-to-win Hampton Heat 200 on Saturday, July 25th. The Hampton Heat 200 has emerged as one of the premier events in all of Late Model Stock Car racing. The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour (NWSMT) will make two appearances at Langley Speedway, once on April 11th and again on September 5th. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) will visit Langley Speedway on June 20th. The NKNPSE and the September 5th NWSMT races will be televised on tape-delay nationally on the NBC Sports Network (NBCSN).
