BARBOURSVILLE, WV :: Jake Keaton enters Sunday’s Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 fresh off a victory at Franklin County Speedway. The victory, Keaton’s third of the season, gives Keaton extra confidence entering the race as he hopes to accomplish his goals of making the race and challenging for a top-20 finish.
“I think we can make the race. That’s obviously our main goal. We’d like to get a top 20. A top 10 would be absolutely amazing. A top-20 would be really good for us.”
Keaton has three wins on the season with his most recent coming last Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway, Virginia. He also has wins at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Virginia and Ona Speedway in Ona, West Virginia.
“Any time you can get a win and go to another race like that, you’ve got confidence and it’s good,” Keaton explained. “We haven’t had as many wins and the finishes we wanted. We didn’t get the finishes at Hickory and Motor Mile but the win at Franklin County gives us confidence going in to Martinsville for sure.”
Keaton has attempted to make the field at Martinsville once before but hopes he can make it in this time.
“I ran there back in 2006 and we didn’t make the show then,” Keaton remarked. “We missed by one or two spots.”
Keaton will be running a Ford Crate motor and recorded fast laps in testing last Wednesday. Practice and qualifying, which will set the field for four qualifying heat races, will be run on Saturday. The green flag will drop on the heat races on Sunday at noon and will set the field for the 200-lap feature which will go green shortly after. RACE22.com will have Live Coverage of the race.
