MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Justin Milliken has scored many victories in his career at Myrtle Beach Speedway but the only thing he’s received in the UNOH Battle at the Beach is heartbreak.

When it comes to the Battle at the Beach, formerly known as the Myrtle Beach 400, Milliken has lost the race in every way imaginable. He’s suffered mechanical problems, his car has burst into flames and he’s even been wrecked out of the lead on the final lap.

This year, Milliken thinks things will be different.

“One thing that you’ve got to hang your hat on is that we’ve always been a car to beat there at the end,” Milliken said. “We’re just gonna hang out hat on that and we’re going to get this Bell & Bell Buick GMC car in victory lane this weekend.”

Milliken comes to this year’s UNOH Battle at the Beach with a fast car and a fast engine package. While he’s always confident, he comes into this year’s race with more confidence than ever.

“We’ve got a strong John West motor, we’ve got a great Hedgecock racecar,” Milliken stated. “I think things are finally lining up. I’m going to get a victory with me and my little girl in victory lane.”

Milliken knows the hard luck he has had at Myrtle Beach. He’s often compared his misfortunes in the race to the misfortunes Dale Earnhardt suffered in his first 19 Daytona 500 attempts. For Milliken, making his ninth start on Sunday, he doesn’t dwell on the past. He focuses on the present and, through hard work, perseverance and with a lot of heart, he is always optimistic about the future.

“The only way I know is hard work and dedication,” Milliken remarked. “Put your nose to the grimestone and keep on working. That’s the only thing I know to do. I’ve got good confidence we’re going to be in victory lane tomorrow night.”
