Josh Berry claimed victory in his first Championship Auto Racing Series (CARS) Late Model Stock Tour event, beating out Todd Gilliland on a late restart to win the Food Country USA 250 at Motor Mile Speedway.
The pivotal caution came on lap 113 of the 125-lap Late Model Stock feature, as Stefan Parsons and Thomas Beane made contact in turn one of the high-banked oval in Radford, Virginia. Gilliland led at the time and chose the inside line for the restart, but Berry rocketed past on the outside to secure the victory.
Several championship contenders encountered problems during the race, the sixth of the CARS Late Model Stock Tour. Brayton Haws, who led the series points standings on the strength of three victories, was slowed by issues with his right-front wheel twice during the event and finished 15th of 24 cars.
Pole-sitter Deac McCaskill, finished 20th after tangling with Tommy Lemons, Jr. on lap 47. McCaskill and Lemons were battling for the lead before colliding on the backstretch. McCaskill entered the event second in points, while Lemons was fifth.
R.D. Smith, who entered the race fourth in points, retired on lap 29 after bringing out a caution.
Gilliland finished second after losing his battle with Berry, while Myatt Snider finished third. Jamey Caudill came home fourth, while Doug Barnes posted his best career finish on the CARS Tour to finish fifth.
