Five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series winning driver Jeremy Mayfield will compete in the Fright Night 300 on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Kingsport Speedway.

Mayfield has never competed at “The Concrete Jungle” but is welcoming the challenge after a long absence from Late Model Stock Car racing.

“I’ve never raced at Kingsport but I’ve heard a lot about it,”Mayfield said. “I’m very excited to get back in a Late Model Stock. I’ve spent most the year in my dirt modified.”

The native of Owensboro, Kentucky says he is excited for the venture into Northeast Tennessee.

“I’m really excited about it,” Mayfield remarked. “I can’t wait to get up there Friday! I love that part of the country!”

Mayfield will pilot a Late Model Stock prepared by Derrick Lancaster and company. His first time behind the wheel will be Friday afternoon for an open practice session ahead of Saturday’s main event.

“[Someone] I used to work with knows Derrick and they were talking to me about coming up and running this race,” Mayfield said on his decision to compete. “It all was kind of last minute. It wasn’t decided a long time ago, just in the last couple of days.”

Mayfield debuted in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 1993, where he competed until 2009. During his 17 years in NASCAR’s top level, Mayfield claimed five victories and 96 top 10 finishes.

The final race of the season is scheduled to feature a 125-lap, $6,000-to-win Late Model Stock Car main event. A 50-lap, $1,000-to-win Street Stock/Modified Street race and a 40-lap, $500-to-win Pure 4 race. Three 20-lap heat races will also be used to set the field for the Late Model Stock Car feature.
