ALTAMAHAW, NC :: Dennis Holdren picked up his second victory of the 2014 in dominant fashion. Holdren set the fastest lap in qualifying and, after an invert, raced his way to the lead at Ace Speedway on Friday night.
The race on August 15th and August 22nd went down almost exactly the same for Holdren – with the exception of the result. On August 15th, Holdren unloaded fast, set the fast lap in qualifying and drew a third place starting position. On that night, he fell back to 10th early in the race and was never able to recover to score the win.
“It was like Groundhog Day,” Holdren said. “We got jammed up on the start. Dustin Rumley got in to me and we fell to 10th place. We got back to second.”
On Friday night, Holdren would once again set the fast lap and draw a third place starting position. This time, the result would be different.
We were happy with that so we came back this week, did the exact same thing. We started behind Barry Beggarly and got a good start. We ran second for four laps, then he got up the hill and I was able to capitalize and go on by. Went green from there on, ended up finishing first. It was dominating. I don’t mean to boast.”
The victory was Holdren’s second win of the season. His first win of the season came at Franklin County Speedway on July 12th. That win came after Holdren reorganized his priorities and began running at Ace Speedway regularly.
“This is the best we’ve done in a long time, all year, especially with the caliber of cars we’re running against at Ace. That’s stout competition. We’ve been going down there since the Rodney Cook Memorial. We been dialing the car in and getting better and better.”
Holdren said he began running Ace and working on getting back on track after a disappointing start to the season at South Boston Speedway and his hometown track, Motor Mile Speedway.
“We started the year with high hopes and they got doused at SoBo and Motor Mile. We struggled. I think we’ve turned the corner running at Ace Speedway and getting the car back to where it would perform pretty well. Hopefully it will translate in to us getting a good run at Motor Mile.”
Holdren will compete at Ace Speedway again this weekend and then he’ll turn his attention to Motor Mile Speedway where there are four races remaining on the season.
