Saturday, November 26th, 2011 was a beautiful night at the Newton Expo and there was a great crowd on hand as Hickory Motor Speedway honored all of their champions and competitors at the 2012 Hickory Motor Speedway Annual Awards Banquet.
The evening began with a reception and meal as Jesse LeFevers prepared to enjoy his first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Track Championship. Pietro Fittipaldi, who is the first Brazilian to win any NASCAR championship, was crowned the Limited Late Model Champion along with Clint Fields in the Super Trucks, Kevin Eby in the Street Stocks, Chandler LeVan in the WrenchRags 4-Cylinders, Dillon Crouch in the Red Baron Race Parts Renegades and Chad McKinney in the Hobby Stock.
A lot of other great awards were passed out and Hickory Motor Speedway announced that they would be using a transponder scoring system in 2012. Hickory Motor Speedway General manager, Kevin Piercy said, “Although we have 2 of the best line scorers in the business, we must continue to work hard to bring Hickory Motor Speedway up to the standards that the sponsors, fans and competitors expect.”
The evening ended with a bowling for charity event which was won by the team of McKinney/Bumgarner with a total score of 1153, 2nd place was the Piercy/Walker team with 1035, 3rd place was the Fisher/Frischmann/Outlaw team with 894 and rounding out the top 4 was the Moore/ Ebeling team at 812. “It was great fun this evening and I hope everyone has a chance to come out next year and join us for the celebration.
