This weekend’s Rattler 250 will be the first time Daniel Hemric will return to super late model coopetition after announcing his full time Camping World Trucks Series ride for 2015.
The 2013 Southern Super Series champion is currently running full time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for NTS Motorsports but will continue to run multiple super late model events this year. Daniel who has driven the 98 Carswell Motorsports super late model in the first two Southern Super Series seasons has become a mainstay in super late model competition.
“Right now we have a tentative schedule set between 18 or 20 races,” Jake Carswell said when asked about how many races were on their schedule.
Going on comment on how the truck series and Southern Super Series schedules would allow them to run most of the series, “we are real close to being able to do all the Southern Super Series races even with Daniel’s truck races.”
Not running for a series championship could make people think that the team will change their style and go all out for wins when they do get the opportunity to race.
“I don’t think it’s going to change anything we’re going to race the same weather it’s for points or racing for the win every week. That’s Daniel’s focus, two years ago when we won the championship he was glad about the championship but he was so bummed that we finished second in that race, he’s always been focused on getting the win.”
Driver Daniel Hemric had a very similar view on not having to worry about points. “It’s cool. It takes the little bit if doubt away that you might have about going for a risky move that you wouldn’t if you’re points racing. It’s exciting to be able to just focus on wins, even if it’s not entirely different than what we were doing before.”
The last time we saw Daniel in a super late model was last December for the running of the Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway. Opp has been a strong track for Daniel and the Carswell Motorsports team. Last year the team posted a 17th place finish that was not a good representation of their day. On lap 206 Daniel had an oil line failure after leading 70 laps.
“We’re starting fresh and just really excited to get back to Opp. We had success there last year before breaking late there as the leader so there’s a lot of excitement to do some Late Model racing before we get back to Martinsville in the NASCAR Truck Series … We’re getting better and better with this California Clean Power truck and seat time on a short track of any kind is going to be beneficial.”
