Corey Heim established himself as the early favorite to pick up the victory in the Myrtle Beach 400 by being the only driver to break inside the 19-second bracket during qualifying on Sunday afternoon.
Heim showed speed during the morning practice session with his time of 20.339 putting him sixth among the 51 cars that turned a lap, but he easily picked up the pace by the time group qualifying started and secured the pole despite a late charge from Sam Yarbrough, who qualified second by running 20 seconds flat.
Heim made a late charge for the win during last year’s running of the Myrtle Beach 400, but he was unable to run down Chad McCumbee for the victory, and will have his teammate lined up beside him on the front row in Yarbrough, who is searching for his second victory in the event.
Timothy Peters will line up in the third position, while Will Burns and Connor Mosack completed the top five. Josh Berry, who won the Myrtle Beach 400 in 2017, locked himself into the main event and will start in 11th.
