NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL :: Harrison Burton scored his first career Super Late Model victory in the opening night of New Smyrna Speedway’s World Series of Asphalt on Friday night after a multi-lap duel with Paul Shaefer, Jr.

Harrison Burton, 14, is the son of former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and current NBC Sports analyst Jeff Burton.  He has scored several wins in Pro Late Model racing in the Pro All Stars Series as well as at New Smyrna Speedway.  Prior to Friday night’s race, he had come close but never won a Super Late Model race.

“It means the world to me,” Burton told NASCAR.com’s Jason Chistley after scoring the victory. “I’m just so glad to race clean and have fun with it. We’ve been kind of hunting our way in. We’ve been third, second, third and fourth. We’ve been all up in there, it’s about time we got one. Hopefully more are coming our way.”

Schaefer dominated much of the race but Burton was able to reel him in during a long green flag run.  Burton got to his inside and the two raced side-by-side for several laps until Burton finally got past him with around five laps to go and cruised to victory.

“It kills you because you hear ‘19 to go’ and the leader is in front of you, and each lap that goes by you know your chances to pass him are getting slimmer,” Burton remarked.  “But once you get past them, or even next to them, it’s the greatest feeling in the world. Here it’s pretty hard to pass, so even getting beside them or even down beside them means so much. It makes you feel invincible.”

Shaefer went on to finish second while Spencer Davis, Tyler Dippel and Austin Nason completed the top-five.  Rounding out the top-10 were Bobby Wilberg, Ty Majeski, Joey Mucciacciaro, Gus Dean and Steven Wallace.

Spencer Davis won the Pro Late Model feature over Derek Scott, Jr., Matt Wallace, Dalton Armstrong and Tyler Thomas.

UPDATE (11:09pm): Spencer Davis was disqualified from both the Pro Late Model race and Super Late Model race, handing the Pro Late Model victory to Derek Scott, Jr.
