EASLEY, SC :: Randy Gentry feels he’s knocking on the door of a victory in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) after a strong third place finish in the season opener at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. Gentry’s confident after the performance at Greenville and thinks a win will be coming soon.
Gentry took the lead from Garrett Campbell late in the Fox Carolina 150 and appeared to have a win in hand until a late race caution gave Daniel Hemric the opportunity he needed to make the pass and take the lead and the win.
“We’ve been fast for several races just had minor things that kept us from competing at the end,” Gentry said. “We’re where we need to be. We’re within striking distance of having that win. After all we’ve battled through, just getting back and competing, it was disheartening to let one go at the end with the caution but just a little minor mistake I made leaving my brake fans on and the rear brakes were locking up four laps after that restart which made the car extremely loose. Once everything cleaned out, it was too late.”
Gentry expects to be just as competitive in Saturday night’s Orange Blossom Special at Orange County Speedway and at the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway later this month.
“We’ve been fast competing at Hickory but I’ve also had a good few wrecks up there,” Gentry explained. “I feel we should unload this weekend, be in the top-five and compete for the win. I’ve got as good a shot as anybody. The way we ran at Greenville showed we’re right where we need to be. We just have to finish these races. You finish in the top three consistently and sooner or later you put yourself there with a shot at the win.”
Gentry’s not racing full time in the PASS South Series so he’s not focused on winning a championship. His only goal when he gets to the racetrack is to win races.
“We’re going to the Easter Bunny 150 and right after that, it’s just a couple weeks and we’re back at Greenville again,” Gentry stated. “We’ll do Orange County, Hickory and, I don’t know if anything falls in between Greenville there but we’ll be there. We’re not points racing. We’re there to win the race each time we’re at the track. Everyone that helps with the car works a schedule around me. Battling for a championship takes so much time and commitment. We’re only focused on one thing and that’s winning.”
Gentry feels that his first career PASS South victory is on the horizon and he just needs everything to fall in to place.
“We should get that win this year. Barring the caution at Greenville, we had that race. We were in contention at the North South Shootout before the wreck there. We just had that monkey on our back last year. Every race that we qualified in the top five, we drew that 10 in the redraw. Just need things to go our way.”
Gentry has scored wins in Super Late Model and Late Model Stock Car events at Greenville, Anderson Motor Speedway and other tracks in the South Carolina region. He finished third in the season opening race at Greenville-Pickens Speedway which, to date, has been his only start in the 2014 season.
