Here are some notes from a driver’s meeting race director Lynn Carroll held with racers and teams prior to practice at Martinsville Speedway ahead of the ValleyStar Credit Union 300.
Race control Channel: 461.200
Car number assignments based on entry
Duplicate numbers, will use first letter of last name beside number. Same with pit stalls, inspection order, hauler parking spot.
Sticker must be on car for duplicate numbers.
NWAAS rulebook. No adjustments whatsoever during the weekend.
Lead ballast must be painted white in proper spot, no tungsten.
Traffic flow for inspection line: based on entry date. Traffic flow for practice, push cars out of garage.
Practice – 25 cars at a time. One pulls in, another goes out.
Stay on track caution. Come in for red.
Spotters required for practice.
15 mph speed limit in garage. 25 on pit road. 30 mph caution speed. 30 on race day.
Speed limit violation means loss of practice time, loss of qualifying time for repeat offenders.
Must go to care center for drivers who can’t drive car back to pits.
During practice, get up to speed as quick as possible.
Qualifying
Tape allowed.
Cars will be run 5 at a time before qualifying runs.
Tape up after warm up.
Green first time.
Black flag if drivers play games during warm-up lap.
Pull in after checkered flag. Spotter must be with car for qualifying.
Top 20 to tech and random picks as well.
Tech bodies, check carbs. Carbs taken apart after qualifying.
Random cars will be by drawing.
Rear of heat race for any tech failure after qualifying.
Carb can be pre-checked.
Tires impounded after qualifying.
Race procedure nots:
Tomorrow morning – garage opens at 9am. 2 hour work session from 9:30am-11:30am.
Can change anything you want in two hours.
Work session after heat race for teams who sustain damage in heat race. Can fix damage.
Qualifying order: slowest to fastest in practice.
No recording devices on cars.
During the race: nobody over pit wall with shorts on. 5 people over wall max.
Can get tires after heat race. Can purchase up to 4 tires. Not required.
Minor adjustments during stage breaks.
