Moonshine Capital Promotions is set to “Make FCS Great Again” but opening day for the 2016 season will have to wait. MCP was set to reopen Franklin County Speedway this Sunday afternoon March 20th but the track isn’t ready to go as a lot of work still has to be done.
“We want to put our best foot forward,” said Moonshine Capital Promotions promoter Langley Austin. “The track just isn’t ready to go yet. The weather this off-season kept us from being able to get started on making improvements and getting the facility back to looking good.”
Austin says the track will now open on Sunday April 10th.
“With a Sunday schedule we really can’t have it next week on Easter and the following week we’re up against the Sprint Cup race at Martinsville and we’re not going to do that. So we’ll just open up on April 10th, which was our next scheduled event anyways.”
The March 20th date won’t be made.
“We’ve got a full schedule of races already and there’s no real reason to make that race up,” explained Austin. “We’d love to be racing this weekend but there’s not enough time to get everything done. We wanted to let everyone know early so they won’t be scrambling all week to get ready especially since over half the racers I’ve talked to aren’t ready yet anyways.”
“There’s no use in getting in a hurry and opening up halfway ready. The racers deserve to have a nice place to race and the fans deserve for the facilities to be up to par. The extra time will give us the ability to be 100% ready come April 10th.”
Open practice will be held at the track on Sunday April 3rd in advance on the opening race as well as Saturday, April 9th the day before the opening event. The Late Models will compete for 100-laps on April 10th with races in Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Tunerz, U-Cars, Mini Cups and Future Stars Mini Cups as well.
