DEARBORN, MI :: There is now even more financial incentive for drivers running the ‘blue oval’ to win the Martinsville DuPont Credit Union (MDCU) 300 at Martinsville Speedway next weekend.
Ford Racing has posted a $1,750 in bonus money for drivers running the Ford Racing D347SR Spec Engine or a built engine running N351 Cylinder Heads. The bonuses are, as follows: $1,000 for the winner, $500 for second and $250 for third.
Ford Racing’s decision could persuade drivers who run the Ford D347SR motor to reconsider competing at Martinsville after NASCAR made a change to the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series rulebook, requiring drivers running the D347SR to run a 6.4L/390 Carburetor. While many NASCAR sanctioned tracks did not implement the rule, NASCAR will implement it at the MDCU 300.
Defending race winner Tommy Lemons, Jr., Deac McCaskill and Matt Bowling are among the drivers racing that will be running the D347SR. Last year, Chad Finchum set the fastest lap in MDCU 300 qualifying running a D347SR. Finchum is one of the drivers who, as of earlier this week, have elected not to compete in this year’s MDCU 300.
