Five action-packed races are scheduled Saturday, May 23, when the engines roar back to life at South Boston Speedway for the running of the NASCAR Late Model 100 racing program.
The first of Saturday evening’s five events will roll to the green flag at 7 p.m. The featured attraction of the night will be a 100-lap event for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
Twin races for the Limited Sportsman Division are scheduled Saturday night as part of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action, and there will also be clashes for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Budweiser Hornets Division.
Race fans will have a chance to win prizes from Ingersoll Rand, the provider of the official power tools of NASCAR Saturday night at America’s Hometown Track. The battle for the lead atop the point standings in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division remains tight with two-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion Lee Pulliam holding only a two-point advantage over former South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock Car Division champion Matt Bowling.
Pulliam has motored to Victory Lane three times this season and Bowling has collected one triumph on the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval in 2015.
Juan Garcia is third in the Late Model Stock Car Division standings. He is followed in the top five by Austin Thaxton in fourth and Quin Houff in the fifth spot.
Two-time defending Limited Sportsman Division champion Danny Willis Jr. has jumped out to a 20-point lead over Joey Throckmorton on the strength of a pair of wins this season.
Trey Crews and Calvin Meadows are tied for third in the Limited Sportsman Division standings, and Billy Myers sits in the fifth-place position.
In the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, Greg Autry owns a slim two-point lead over Stuart Crews in the chase for the 2015 crown, while Eric Winslow is the leader in the Budweiser Hornets Division. He has opened a 21-point lead over Kirstin Simmons.
Registration and pit gates will open Saturday at 2 p.m. with practice for all division scheduled from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 5:30 p.m.
Adult admission is $10. Children, ages six and under, will be admitted free with an adult.
