KNOXVILLE, TN :: Chad Finchum clocked off three more strong performances over the weekend at Kingsport Speedway and Motor Mile Speedway. He finished fourth at Kingsport. His finishes at Motor Mile in twin races didn’t do the Knoxville, TN driver justice as he drove towards the front during the two 125 lap races.
Finchum’s weekend started at Kingsport Speedway where he was the second fastest qualifier. He started the race third after an invert and challenged for the second position for much of the first half of the race. Then, the race was stopped for nearly two hours due to weather. When the race resumed, Finchum battled hard inside the top five en route to a fourth place finish.
“Kingsport was a tough race,” said Finchum. “The rain delay hurt us. The car did nothing but go backwards after the halfway point. We managed to salvage a fourth place. The car just had no forward bite in the first half. We tried to tinker with air and it made it worse. I don’t know if it was the rain washing the rubber off the track or not. But we finished fourth and still have the points lead so that’s positive stuff to look at. We’ll come back next week and try to back up another win.”
Finchum then headed to Motor Mile Speedway on Saturday. He qualified 13th for the first race but had to start in the back due to some electrical issues. He would come up through the field but fell out of the first race and finished 19th. He started in the back in the second race and worked his way up in to the top five. Late in the race, he was spun by a competitor battling for the fourth position but he was able to recover for a 12th place finish.
“We were coming on strong,” said Finchum. “I think we were battling for fourth or fifth right there. We had a free car. We didn’t touch it any. We thought the car would come to us which it did somewhat but the car was just so free in the center off at the end of the race that I couldn’t do anything. We had a little help coming off the corner and it took us around. It was a good, solid night for our team though.”
Finchum’s next race will be at Kingsport Speedway on Friday, June 28th. Finchum has two wins and eight top five finishes on the 2013 season and continues to lead the points at Kingsport Speedway.
