KNOXVILLE, TN :: A disqualification couldn’t keep Chad Finchum down long as the Knoxville, Tennessee returned to his winning ways at Kingsport Speedway on Friday night, sweeping both of the Late Model Stock Car races run on the evening.
Finchum started the day fast in practice and then qualified at the top of the charts for the first Late Model feature. There was no invert which allowed Finchum to start on the pole. He would go on to win the race in a photo finish.
“It’s great to be back in Victory Lane,” said Finchum. “We’ve had the best car here for the past month and I knew the disqualification wouldn’t keep us down long. My dad, my crew, they work hard every week and this one’s for them. We fight hard every week and this one’s satisfying.”
Finchum started fourth in the second feature after an invert but quickly made his way to the front and again held on to win in a race that finished identical to the first one, with Finchum winning in a side-by-side finish.
“We came here to do what we needed to do,” said Finchum. “We qualified on the pole, led most of the laps and won the races. We really redeemed ourselves here. More importantly, we got maximum points and should be leading the points again. The car was just as good as it’s ever been tonight. You can’t keep us down.”
Finchum’s wins came after being disqualified two weeks earlier due to a mistake made by Ford Racing Engines. With the win, Finchum moves atop the championship standings again at Kingsport Speedway by eight points.
Finchum will be back in action on Friday night, August 2nd at Kingsport Speedway in Tennessee.
