CALLAWAY, VA :: The 4-Crown Challenge at Franklin County Speedway has been revamped after heavy rains forced the track to cancel all but one Late Model features on July 4th and July 6th.  The next three Late Model races, which will consist of this coming Saturday night’s Twin 44 lap races and a 50 lap feature on August 3rd, count towards the 4-Crown Challenge at Franklin County Speedway.

“Unfortunately, rain has hit the short track racing world hard this season,” said track promoter Langley Austin.  “We’ve all been dealt more than our fair share of rain outs but we’re not going to let that dampen our 44th Anniversary Celebration.  The 4-Crown Challenge idea from July 4th and 6th attracted a lot of interest from the drivers so we’re going to run the second and third legs this weekend during our fan appreciation night and run the fourth leg on August 3rd.”

The same bonuses remain in the 4-Crown Challenge which pays $200 to win two races, $300 to win three races and $400 to win all four races.  The champion of the 4-Crown Challenge, which uses a separate points system, will receive a four foot trophy.  On top of the bonuses, the races this weekend will pay $444 to win twin 44-lap races in celebration of the tracks 44th Anniversary season.  Brian Pembelton won the first leg of the 4-Crown Challenge on July 6th and if Pembelton were to win all four races, he could win at least $2,280.

On top of the 4-Crown Challenge, Saturday night will be Fan Appreciation Night at the track to celebrate Franklin County Speedway’s 44thanniversary.  Fans will again be able to bring their family and friends and pack their vehicles as the $25 per carload special will return again for Saturday night’s race.  This weekend’s special at the concessions will be 2 Bologna Burgers for just $3.

Other races on tap include a $300 to win Street Stock race and a $250 to win U-CAR race that was rained out on July 6th. The Mini Cups, Mini Stocks, TunerZ and Rookie U-CAR divisions will also compete.   Several Mini Cup drivers and teams have expressed interest after a $100 bounty was placed on Steve Teter, the driver who has won all three Mini Cup features of 2013.  Entries are coming from as far away as New Jersey to challenge Teter’s domination.

General Admission tickets are $25 per carload or $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-10 and kids five and under are admitted free.  Grandstands open at 3:30pm with racing kicking off at 7:00pm.
