EASLEY, SC :: There are successful, respected, race car drivers who have never won 26 races in their career. Friday night at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, Anthony Anders logged his 26th victory of the season. Then he stretched his string even tighter by winning number 27 in the nightcap.
And he did it by starting 10th. “I was doing something I have to do to protect my National lead,'” Anders said in Victory Lane. “I get two extra points for starting 10th, so that’s what I have to do.”
To win the National Championship, a driver can post any 18 races for the season, and Anders just logged his 26th.
“I already have 18 victories in races with 18 cars, and the only thing I can do is start 10th and win and I can enter those races with the two extra points for the season.”
In Victory Lane after the second win, Anders thanked the fans and his crew for making his racing efforts so successful.
Since GPS held the special Friday night program, Anders has a rare Saturday night where he can pick out the track to visit.
Anders raced at Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday and next week when the K&N racers compete at GPS, Anders may return the favor and visit the track Pulliam will be racing. A few weeks ago, Pulliam came to Greenville-Pickens in an effort to beat Anders at his house, but came up just short. Anders started that first race on the pole, and led every lap for the win while Pulliam took second. In the second race Pulliam started out front but could not hold off Anders, who went on to win that race as well.
Dylan Hall took second in both races and Kyle Plott was third. Brandon Fox took fourth while Bob Root was fifth.
